LOL Right on, but I think that eating the mushrooms would cause the glittering profusely and then everyone would get along because they where laughing to hard to fight.
In the brunette’s defense, there are stories where bad stuff happens, and then there’s Vanyel’s trilogy, in which the entire universe decides to ruin his life repeatedly. Read other stuff by the author, it’s not usually as unbelievably depressing.
Ms. Lackeys’s works are quite harsh on her characters. One line that has always stuck with me from Arrows Fall was (paraphrasing here) “… and she didn’t even stop screaming even after they crushed both of her feet.” Granted, Vanyel gets the absolute worst of it all. No questions there. But that said, she is a wonderful author, with characters you love, and you DO have to worry if they will live through the book. In most fantasy stories there is a fight, but you never worry about your main characters, in her’s they die, horribly. Anyway, had to comment. *ramble off*
