Guys! Have you been salmoned? It’s… mostly harmless. Apparently there are these bots that connect you to other people who have recently updated their LiveJournal, Twitter, Xanga, or other accounts, and after a HILARIOUS opening line, the bots step out and leave you befuddled, wondering who on earth you are talking to!
But it’s okay, there’s a clue. They will always connect you using a screen name with the word “salmon” or “coho” following an adjective of questionably legitimacy.
So if you get one, be sure to play along and screw with someone else’s head! It’s great fun!

Salmonbots basically randomly connect to people via IM. Neither can see the other’s IM screenname. All they see are IMs from someone/something named “____salmon, or _____coho, ie curioussalmon, inquistivecoho).
So in essence, you think you’re talking to an automated bot, but in reality there’s an actual person on the other end you’re chatting with.
It can lead to all sorts of confusion if the other person assumes they’re only talking to a bot and not a real person.
Hope that helps!
